Three crowns

Matthew 2
Crown: skull-funnel open
for falcon’s burnished wings,
pressing heaven into pharaoh’s mind.

Crown: gilded skullhouse gate
with bars of gold
to hold fast our hoard,
trapping us in its bony world.

Crown: prised-open casket
leaving scar of mind’s
yielding,
skull-bone softening
to infant’s font,
opening.
