The bread

John 6:1-15
a sigh moves
through the long grass.

a wave –
people sitting tall,
taking,
passing on

then the weight
as pieces press softly
to our palms.

open lips,
tongue learning
salt and crumb.

within us
new strength
slowly suffuses
our limbs.

Please subscribe if you haven’t already, so the poems arrive reliably in your inbox every week.

The weekly poems will always remain free and accessible to all.

If you can, please consider supporting our work with a paid subscription. The biggest benefit of this is that you receive a subscription to the PDF edition of Perspectives magazine. Additionally, we occasionally put together a booklet, free to subscribers, with a series of poems for a festival period and notes to help deepen understanding. One of these is planned for the poems for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

Perhaps most importantly, it means that you are supporting our work and enabling it to carry on.

Instructions for how to do this are available below. So the main reward for subscribing is knowing that you are making it possible for this work to carry on. In case you’re wondering how to change your subscription to a paid one, the button below takes you to some instructions.
